I was offered a position of Graphic Technician with Page One Publishing in the fall of 2008. Page One Publishing had been building tourist publications for years and had it’s own in-house magazine, Douglas along with some of my old co-workers, acquaintances and held a high regard for clean and quality design. As the Graphic Technician, I was given various duties from production and graphic design to editorial illustration to providing some IT and whatever else help maybe required (this meant at times I moved furniture.) I maintained the Douglas magazine website which was built with Joomla and I also redesigned the Page One Publishing website
Among the publications I built for Page One, the first was the Garden Trail Pamphlet for Tourism Vancouver Island. I also ended up building the Wine Island Trails pamphlet for both 2009 and 2010 as well as the Golf Vacations guide for 2010. There are examples of this work in the gallery below.
Page One Publishing provided many great and interesting opportunities. My time there challenged me in many great ways. It helped me realize what I want out of myself as a designer and a workplace. They do great work and their products are well made and contain a lot of great writing, imagery and design. They also have a great lifestyle magazine call YAM which is beautiful.
